=========================================================================== // Amiga Update - News and Rumors // \X/ (A Very Occasional Newsletter) \X/ =========================================================================== 941128 Thought it was time to send another of these out, just so people don't think we've stopped watching the Commodore situation. There just hasn't been any reliable information available lately, but things seem to be happening. First, rumor indicates that Commodore UK either didn't get the final bid after all or, more likely, passed on it. Rumor assigns two reasons to this event (pick your favorite) 1- UK's financing is crumbling. 2- UK figures they will be in a better position if they let CEI make the final bid, then come up with a better final counter-bid. Secondly, rumor states that CEI is now in the driver's seat. Rumor further states that CEI's main source of financing is "Scala", a top notch Amiga graphics software company. Supposedly, Scala's financing comes in turn from Ameritech. Keep in mind that a number of former Commodore employees have in fact migrated to Scala. This includes, I believe, Dave Haney who was the keeper of the Amiga's operating system at Commodore. It is known for a fact that there was to be a second conunter-bidding phase to the buyout after the first bidding phase. We should be and seem to be in that phase now. It is probably a good sign that there are no reliable leaks. On the other hand, it is obvious that a great deal of time is passing that the Amiga community can ill afford. However, the Christmas season was lost weeks ago, so the immediate sense of urgency is past in any event. Look for real information in January at the earliest now. Sigh.
