Short: Bugfix for level 8 of Alien Breed Special Edition Uploader: warda vax oxford ac uk (Bill Bennett) Type: game/patch Architecture: m68k-amigaos This is a bugfix for the game "Alien Breed Special Edition '92" taken from the coverdisk of Amiga Format February 93 issue. Tha magazine states that "early production versions of this game crashed on higher levels" and that the bugfix would sort this out. It also fixes a bug which I (and others) came across on level eight: Namely that it is impossible to reach duct 3 - the exit from the level, due to a hemisphere on the wall at one of the junctions rendering it totally impassable. Run the fix program and insert the Alien Breed datadisk (disk 2) in df0: to apply the patch. ***WARNING!******WARNING!*****WARNING!*****WARNING!*****WARNING!***** I applied this patch under kickstart 1.3 and got very weird results. The game would run OK for a minute or so then freeze without warning. Rebooting led to constant lockups with my hard disk. I switched off my A1000 for a few minutes, then upon switching back on and inserting the kickstart disk, I was greeted with a pale green screen, followed by as multicoloured "copper barf-list" and some futile disk-grinding noises. I have 4 megs of RAM, so perhaps I didn't leave the power off long enough to flush out the RAM fully, but whatever the mis-patched game had done to the system was tenacious and vicious! Powering down the system completely for ten minutes solved the problem. I re-applied the patch under KS2.04 and everything worked fine - the game runs and level 8 can now be completed. I don't know whether the kickstart version or my antique hardware had anything to do with the patch failing the first time around, and frankly, I got such a scare that I am disinclined to experiment. All I can say is that if you get weird results after using this program, re-apply it and hope for the best. It _does_ work, however.
