Short: AIBB Module for Apollo 1240/40MHz and FastExec Author: tpomar@jet.es (currently disabled) Uploader: tpomar jet es Type: util/moni Architecture: m68k-amigaos This module for AIBB 6.5 has been done with an Apollo 1240/40MHz with SCSI module, 8 Meg FAST RAM, and (VERY IMPORTANT) FastExec installed. Compare it with the original Apollo_1240_40.lha archive uploaded by Thorsten.Schneider@t-online.de. Because of a "bug" of the Amiga 1200, the Supervisor Stack Pointer (SSP) remains in CHIP memory even when you have true FAST memory. Because the FPU of the 68040 uses A LOT the Supervisor Stack Pointer, the FPU intensive programs run a lot slower on the Apollo 1240 than they could. With FastExec installed (util/batch/Fast_Exec.lha by Harry Sintonen) the BeachBall test runs 3 times faster, and FPU intensive programs (like Lightwave and Imagine) run between 2 and 3 times faster. Quite nice just for a 960 bytes patch. In fact, compared to the actual speed in the Apollo 1240, Lightwave runs only 30% faster in the Blizzard 1260 with Cyberpatcher installed (and this is TRUE, since I had to make a comparative report between M-TEC 1230/42MHz, Apollo 1240/40MHz, Apollo 1260/50MHz and Blizzard 1260/50MHz for my job :-)
