Gilligan's Island Airstrip Runway Resurface Patches =================================================== Purpose of the Patches ---------------------- These two patches will resurface the runway contained in my "Gilligan's Island Scenery for Flight Simulator" package (GILLIGAN.ZIP) to asphalt, or revert it back to the original dirt strip. The asphalt patch will not change the visual appearance of the runway (when used in combination with the included RUNWAY02.R8 texture file), only the runway's actual surface characteristics. Both FS51 and FS95 are infamous for seriously exaggerating the bumpiness and roughness of the dirt and grass strips within any given scenery, and quite frankly I was sick and tired of crashing all of the time at GIA because of it . For some strange reason/bug this only applies to the default Cessna 182. These patches are not necessary for Flight Simulator 98, or when using any aircraft other than the default Cessna 182 in FS51/95 as they do not suffer from this problem. Files in this Archive --------------------- ASPHALT.EXE - Asphalt resurfacing patch DIRT.EXE - Dirt resurfacing patch FILE_ID.DIZ - Brief description of these patches GIRUNWAY.TXT - You're reading it! README.TXT - Pointer to this file RUNWAY02.R8 - Texture file Installation ------------ Copy the ASPHALT.EXE and DIRT.EXE files to the subdirectory where the original Gilligan's Island Scenery "GILLIGAN.BGL" file is located. After installing the Gilligan's Island scenery package, this file can be found in the "\SCENERY\GILLIGAN\SCENERY" subdirectory within your main Flight Simulator directory (usually "C:\FLTSIM", "C:\FLTSIM5", "C:\FS95", or something similar depending on your version of FlightSim). Copy the RUNWAY02.R8 file to the "\SCENERY\GILLIGAN\TEXTURE" subdirectory (also within your main Flight Simulator directory). Resurfacing the Runway ---------------------- From the DOS prompt (everyone chant with me... "DOS!" "DOS!" "DOS!" ), change directory (CD\) to the "\SCENERY\GILLIGAN\SCENERY" subdirectory (i.e. "CD\FLTSIM5\SCENERY\GILLIGAN\SCENERY "). Type "ASPHALT " to resurface the runway to asphalt, or "DIRT " to resurface the runway back to the original dirt strip. Again, note that the visual appearance of the runway will not be changed, only it's surface characteristics. The Disclaimer -------------- (Gotta have it this day in age when people sue M.D. Lounge for burning their legs from hot coffee they spilled on their lap while driving their car, when they SHOULD be watching the blasted road!) Now THERE'S a mouthfull ... These patches will not willingly cause any damage or harm to your computer, but if they do, sorry you're on your own. I am not responsible or liable if you accidently reformat your hard drive, you completely erase your Flight Simulator installation from your computer, you crash your hard drive, you crash your aircraft, you have your pilot's license revoked by the FAA, your aircraft runs out of fuel, etc..., etc..., but the patches sure work great on mine!
