DALLAS-FORT WORTH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ________________________________________________________________________________ DFW_RPv2.ZIP for FS98 September 1998 FREEWARE by Richard Probst Dallas, Texas FS98 scenery. Dallas - Fort Worth International Airport. Also adds the Maverick VOR to be commissioned 10/08/98. ________________________________________________________________________________ INSTALLATION: Expert users: Typical installation. You will need to have the Patch 1 installed so that the scenery will display correctly. This patch is available from the MS Flight Simulator website. You will also need the latest VOD and Airport textures. You can place the static textures in your main texture folder. If you already have them, there is no need to replace them. Set as local in the Scenery Library. The CD must be in or the CD scenery must be installed when using this scenery. New users: 1. You will need to have the latest textures from Airport and VOD already installed. These are available at many FS sites, maybe even where you got this scenery. You will also need to have the Patch 1 installed. This is available from the MS Flight Simulator website. 2. Using Windows Explorer (or whatever), create a new folder named "DFW" within your main Scenery folder. See folder diagram in number 7 below. 3. Create two more folders within your DFW folder, named "Scenery" and "Texture". They should be at the same level, in other words, indented the same. 4. Unzip the Scenery.zip into the DFW\Scenery folder. 5. Unzip the Texture.zip into your \DFW\Texture folder. 6. Unzip the StatText.zip into your MAIN Texture folder. If you already have any of these files, you do not have to replace them. 7. This is a diagram of how the folder structure for a default FS installation looks: C:\Program Files\ \Microsoft Games\ \Flight Simulator\ \Scenery\ @ \DFW\ @ \Scenery\ .........all *.bgl's go here @ \Texture\ ..........all *.r8's and *.pat's go here \Texture\ .........all *.*af's go here @ = folders that you created 8. Now that you have all the files installed, let's start FS. 9. In the World pull-down menu, select Scenery Library. 10. Click OK to the warning. 11. Click the Files button, then the Add button. 12. In the first edit box, type the path that you have the *.bgl files installed. Mine looks like: c:\fs98\scenery\dfw\scenery\*.bgl Yours may look something like this: c:\program files\microsoft games\flight simulator\scenery\dfw\scenery \*.bgl The " *.bgl " is important. The asterik tells FS to look for all the .bgl files at once. You will know when you have the path right when the window changes slightly in appearance. Now, type a title in the next edit box, such as " DFW Int'l ". 13. Go the the lower left corner of the window and change the scenery from Global to Local. 14. Now, check the Active button. It should light up green. 15. Hit the OK button repeatedly until back into FS. The scenery is now installed, and you can go there using the World - Go to airport menu. I did not add any menu entries, so do a search for the airport ID which is KDFW or by the airport name. 16. You must have the CD in or the CD scenery installed when flying. If you are having difficulty with this, just e-mail me for help. My address is at the bottom of this text. ________________________________________________________________________________ ABOUT THIS SCENERY AND CREDITS: Thank you for downloading this scenery. It's the result of many months of work and several drives out to the airport to take photos. My goal was to have high frame rates despite the detail. There's so much more that I wanted to add, such as taxiway centerlines, more signs and static aircraft, and the surrounding area. The scenery would have been too slow, so I kept it fairly simple. This scenery doesn't make use of complexity settings; everything shows at the very sparse and above settings. The Maverick VOR (TTT, 113.10) is to be commissioned on 10/08/98. The location is N32-5208.98, W97-02-25.08, or just about 3/4 mile west of the DFW VOR. This VOR will replace the DFW VOR, which will be de-commissioned on the same day. I, however, have kept it commissioned indefinitely in this scenery. I intended that this scenery work with FS5.1, FS95, and FS98. It was tested on all three versions. It did not work at all with FS5.1 due to the large size. With FS95, it worked only marginally, most likely due to the lower scenery buffer. I therefore do not recommend trying this scenery with FS95. If you are going to try anyway, delete the dfwstat.bgl and do not install the static textures. You can also delete DFWm.bgl, which is the boarding gates, if you are still experiencing long pauses. Or, you can download my DFW97v1.zip, which was created especially for FS95. Not nearly as fancy, but it will work better for you. This scenery was created with Airport 2.10, VOD 2.7, Texbmp, and Paint Shop Pro. Static aircraft are by the following: 1) Aeromexico MD-83, by Project Freeware 2) American MD-83, by Project Freeware 3) American B727, static by Philip Cook, original by Brian Quayle, textures by Dwayne Heronimo 4) American DC10, static by Philip Cook, original by Rafael Sanchez, textures by myself using Dwayne's 727 as a guide 5) Continental MD-82, by Project Freeware 6) Delta B737, by Project Freeware 7) ASA Emb-120, by Philip Cook, original by Marty Baclawski and Tony Bolton 8) British Airways B777, by Project Freeware 9) United B737, by Project Freeware 10) American Eagle Saab 340, by Philip Cook, original by Marty Baclawski and Tony Bolton 11) American B767, by Project Freeware 12) Delta B767, by Project Freeware 13) Delta MD-90, by Project Freeware ________________________________________________________________________________ TERMS OF USE: This scenery is FREEWARE.
