Documents of the form xxxwd.zip, are Word 6.0 format documents. Documents of the form xxxwp.zip documents are in Word Perfect 6.0 or 6.1 format. The documents are: req5wp.zip - TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS tspolwp.zip - TECHNICAL POLICY con14wd.zip - CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS, which describes the overall concept of operation of the FPKI and details a approach to using certificate extensions for X.509 v3 certificates to facilitate hierarchical management of the Federal PKI, while allowing liberal cross-certification by the lowest (hierarchical) level of Certification Authorities (CA). This approach supports certificate verification strategies that work from a root CA, or that crosswd.zip - INTEROPERABILITY PROFILES, which describes in some detail the recommended approach to interoperation with other PKIs, which may use other cryptography. fordwd.zip - A report by Warwick Ford on the structure of the FPKI. It recommends a less hierarchical structure that takes advantage of the X.509 V3 certificate extensions to allow cert. Path verification strategies based upon the public key of the verifier's local CA, rather than the Root CA, as well as those based on the public key of the root CA.
