I am looking at a 486 DX/2 66. My question is how big of a hard drive and how much memory do I need to purchase to have a nice firewall? tia kent - --<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<*>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>-- Kent Arnott Systems Programmer II, Systems Administrator Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi 6300 Ocean Drive Corpus Christi, Texas 78412 e-mail: karnott@tamucc.edu phone:(512)994-2693 - --<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<*>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>-- -------- From academic-firewalls-owner@net.tamu.edu Tue Apr 18 13:14:36 1995 Content-Length: 1060 Date: Tue, 18 Apr 1995 13:10:09 -0500 From: Dave Hess Reply-To: academic-firewalls@net.tamu.edu To: academic-firewalls@net.tamu.edu Subject: Re: information needed > i am about to purchase a few machines to run Drawbridge. > I am looking at a 486 DX/2 66. My question is how big > of a hard drive and how much memory do I need to purchase > to have a nice firewall? You typically don't need much more than 1 MB of disk space. Some people run Filter off of a floppy. If you do use a floppy be prepared for a large pause when Filter writes the files out after a "write" command. You may also have to adjust the timeout values in Filter Manager. Memory depends on how many tables you have loaded. For a typical configuration (couple of class B and class C networks referenced in the Filter Compiler source file), 2MB should be plenty. Each class C takes 256 bytes and each class B takes 64KB. Note that the network tables are all stored in XMS (above 1MB boundary) memory. Dave - -- David K.
