Anime Expo Modeling Contest Rules ================================= I. Rules and Guidelines ----------------------- 1. All entrants (persons) MUST have a full 3-day membership to Anime Expo '94. All entries (models) should be constructed by AMATEURS. All entries submitted should NOT have been entered in any other modeling contest. All entries should be the product of the entrant's own hands, and the theme should reflect that of a Japanese anime, manga, or science fiction/fantasy movie. No exceptions! 2. The contest will consist of three main categories: Character Models depicting a particular character from a Japanese anime, manga, or science fiction/fantasy movie. No scale limitations. Mecha Examples include the ships and mobile suits from Gundam, Hardsuits from Bubble Gum Crisis, Kaneda's motorcycle from Akira, Bonaparte from Dominion, the Gratan tank from Nadia, the mortar heads of Five Star Stories, Nammo of the Dirty Pair, and the Space Cruiser Yamato. No scale limitations, but 1:1 scale models are discouraged. Miscellaneous Meant for items such as guns, swords, dioramas and other items that do not fit into the above categories. You must have the prior approval of the Modeling Director to enter in this category. No scale limitations. Also, live action monsters (Godzilla, Rodan, King Ghidorah, etc.), mecha (Super X, Atragon, etc.), and characters (Kamen Rider, Ultra Man, Zeiram, etc.) are encouraged. 3. In addition, each category will be divided into two groups: Full Scratch Build/Modified Kit Entries with less than 50% of their parts coming from one kit. Extensive modifications and/or scratch built parts are acceptable, as well as "kit-bashing" (using parts from several unrelated kits to create an original design). Stock Kit A single kit or model that has been assembled and painted, as per instructions of the kit. Paint design/color changes, small amounts of detailing/modification, and weathering of the kit will be allowed. 4. Each entrant will be allowed four entries. 5. The Modeling Director reserves the right of final designation of which category and/or group an entry will be placed in, and reserves the right to reject any model deemed unacceptable due to poor taste or unrelated theme. 6. Once an entry has been submitted and accepted into the Modeling Contest, it may not be withdrawn until after the close of the display on Sunday. (Exceptions will be made if a model is needed for a demonstration or panel.) 7. All rules are subject to change at the discretion of the Modeling Director. II. General Information ----------------------- 1. Set up and check-in is scheduled from 9am to 12 noon on Friday. Please arrive early and have all paperwork filled out PRIOR to your arrival. All models must be presented by the modeler IN PERSON. 2. Check out will begin after 1pm Sunday. If you need to remove your model earlier, please make arrangements with the Modeling Director. 3. The Anime Expo Art Show and Modeling Display will be open from 12 noon to 7pm on Friday, 10am to 8pm on Saturday, and 10am to 1pm on Sunday. All times are subject to change. 4. Security will be provided on a "round-the-clock" basis. 5. All winners will be announced at the Anime Expo Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening, and will also be printed in the Sunday con newsletter. All awards and/or certificates will be presented Saturday night during the Awards ceremony. III. Registration ----------------- 1. Registration forms for the Modeling Contest will be accepted by mail until June 1st, 1994. After that date you must come to the convention and enter as a "walk-in". The Modeling Director reserves the right to close registration early due to space limitations. 2. You must use your full legal name on all Modeling Contest forms. Please indicate any "alternate" names (e.g. fannish-names or nicknames) in brackets. 3. Registration for the Modeling Contest will close at 2pm on Friday. Please make arrangements with the Modeling Director if this is a problem.
