Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf4016b, the Intel EtherExpress PRO/1000 Gigabit Server Adapter Supplement, installs and configures a new driver that supports this Intel LAN adapter: EtherExpress PRO/1000 Gigabit Server Adapter PWLA8490 Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- SLS ptf4016b should only be installed on these releases: SCO UnixWare Application Server Release 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3 SCO UnixWare Personal Edition Release 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3 In addition, this NIC should only be installed on systems that meet the following minimum configuration: - An SCO supported 200MHz or faster Pentium Pro/Pentium II class machine - 64MB of system memory - One available 32-bit or 64-bit busmaster PCI slot - The latest BIOS for the system - Fiber optic cabling and connectors that meet 62.5/125um or 50/125um multimode specifications - An IEEE 802.3z-compliant gigabit switch (such as the Intel Express Gigabit switch), or a buffered repeater Note: A machine with a slower processor, or one with less then 64MB memory, may function, but with less than optimal performance. If problems are experienced on a system not meeting the minimum hardware requirements, the problem must be reproduced on a supported configuration before it can be reported to Support Services. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Download the ptf4016b.Z file to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. As root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using these commands: $ su Password: # uncompress /tmp/ptf4016b.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf4016b # rm /tmp/ptf4016b The release notes displayed prior to installation can be found in: /var/sadm/pkg/ptf4016/install/ptf4016.txt 3. Configure the driver: a. Invoke the NIC Support Utility. The utility can be accessed from the Desktop GUI "Admin_Tools -> Networking -> NICS_Setup" icons, or from the command line as "/usr/sbin/niccfg". The utility provides a simple menu-oriented graphical interface with online help. # /usr/sbin/niccfg b. Select the "Accept all entries" item from the menu presented. The utility will dynamically load the e1000 driver into the UnixWare kernel. 4. Establish an Internet configuration for your system. a. The Internet setup required for your Internet node can be established by using the utility access from the Desktop GUI "Admin_Tools -> Networking -> Internet_Setup" icons or the command line utility, "/etc/inet/menu". 5. Reboot the system. Note: A system reboot is required following installation of this SLS for the kernel sections to take effect. However, if you have not already installed any other SLS that you need, you should do so before rebooting.
