Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) PTF7070A, the UnixWare 7 Panic Dump Supplement, includes modifications to allow tape media size and I/O chunk size to be configurable to help in the transfer of panic dumps to and from backup devices. SLS PTF7070A also enhances dumpcheck and dumpsave to allow an administrator to configure dumpcheck so that it checks for crash dump images on chosen devices. This is done by introducing a new file called /etc/dumptab which has the same syntax as /etc/swaptab.s. IMPORTANT NOTE: Users of UnixWare 7.0.1 should only install PTF7070A if they require the ability to write panic dumps to backup devices. The tapes generated by systems with SLS PTF7070A installed can only be read by systems that also have this SLS. The saving of panic dumps to tape assumes a default tape size of 50MB. This may be overridden by setting the TAPE_SIZE default value using defadm. It should be set to the length of the tapes used, expressed as a number of 512-byte blocks. For example to set the tape length to 1GB, use this command: defadm dump TAPE_SIZE=2097152 The setting of TAPE_SIZE does not have any affect when reading dump tapes. The I/O buffer size used to read and write dump tapes can be overridden using the TAPE_BLOCK_SIZE attribute. If this is not set then the default is the devattr 'bufsize' value for the tape unit. The TAPE_BLOCK_SIZE value is specified in 512 byte units, so a 32K buffer size is configured by: defadm dump TAPE_BLOCK_SIZE=64 SLS PTF7070A contains the following files: /etc/dumptab /sbin/dumpcheck /sbin/dumpsave /usr/sbin/ldsysdump The release notes displayed prior to installation can be found in: /var/sadm/pkg/ptf7070/install/ptf7070.txt Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- SLS PTF7070A should only be installed on: UnixWare 7.0.0 with the UnixWare 7 Release Supplement (uw7rs) UnixWare 7.0.1 Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1.
