Dear SCO Customer, The enclosed Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf7130b provides sendmail 8.10.1 for UnixWare 7 operating systems and UnixWare 7 NonStop Clusters. This release of sendmail 8.10.1 provides new features as well as fixes. Changes include: 1. The sendmail option "AutoRebuildAliases" has been deprecated in sendmail 8.10.1 due to the potential of a denial of service attack if this option is set. (It will be removed from a future version.) SLS ptf7130b will automatically comment out the AutoRebuildAliases if set in /etc/sendmail.cf. You must manually edit /etc/sendmail.cf to reverse this. 2. The "l" and "s" flags have been removed from the SMTP, badhost, and baduser delivery agent definitions in the default sendmail.cf. This SLS will automatically remove these flags from these delivery agents if they are defined in your sendmail.cf. 3. Load-averaging support has been enabled. See the online sendmail Operations Guide for a discussion of options for managing load-averaging in sendmail. 4. LDAP map support has been enabled. SLS ptf7130b additionally addresses these issues with version ptf7130a: 5. The SCOadmin Mail Manager included with ptf7130a has problems running on releases of UnixWare 7 prior to 7.1.1. If running in a non-English locale, messages are not properly displayed by the Mail Manager. Furthermore, the POP_TIMEOUT folder configuration, which is not available for pre-7.1.1 systems, is incorrectly displayed by the Mail Manager. 6. The sendmail ServiceSwitchFile option defines the path to the switched-services file. Previously, if the entire option was omitted, the default path was set by sendmail to be /etc/service.switch. For sendmail 8.10.1, the default path was changed to /etc/mail/service.switch. SLS ptf7130b adds the ServiceSwitchFile option to sendmail.cf to explicitly set it to the correct path for UnixWare 7, which is /etc/service.switch. For a complete list of changes, see the sendmail 8.10.1 Release Notes, available at: ftp://ftp.sendmail.org/pub/sendmail/RELEASE_NOTES In addition, this release of sendmail includes support for multiple daemons on UnixWare 7 NonStop Clusters. The following scripts have been either added or modified for NSC: - /etc/mail/sendmailrc The sendmail startup script. - /etc/spawndaemon.d/ka_sendmail The process configuration file for keepalive monitoring of multiple sendmail daemons. - /etc/keepalive.d/sendmail_restart The startup script used by the keepalive daemon to start sendmail and to re-start sendmail if it fails. - /etc/cluster/nodeup/S81sendmail.node The sendmail startup script for dependent nodes. - /etc/cluster/nodeup/rc2.sh The generic startup script for dependent nodes, which has been modified to call the sendmail startup script for dependent nodes (/etc/cluster/nodeup/S81sendmail.node). Note: The above scripts (with the exception of /etc/mail/sendmailrc) will only be installed if your system has the nsc package installed. files are installed in addition to those listed above: /etc/keepalive.d/sendmail_restart /etc/spawndaemon.d/ka_sendmail /etc/cluster/nodeup/S81sendmail.node Software Notes and Recommendations ---------------------------------- SLS ptf7130b should only be installed on: UnixWare 7 Release 7.0.0, 7.0.1, 7.1.0, 7.1.1 UnixWare 7 NonStop Clusters 7.1.1a sendmail 8.10.1 is included in UnixWare 7 Nonstop Clusters Release 7.1.1+IP. It is not necessary for you to additionally install SLS ptf7130b for this functionality if you have this newer version of NSC. SLS ptf7130b spans the following packages: base scoadmin nsc SLS ptf7130b is a superset of the fixes contained in SSE022 and SSE028; do NOT install SSE022 or SSE028 after ptf7130b. SLS ptf7130b attempts to update your existing sendmail configuration file, /etc/sendmail.cf, for changes needed for sendmail 8.10.1. A backup version will be saved upon installation to /etc/sendmail.cf.bak. It is recommended that you carefully examine your /etc/sendmail.cf against the original saved in /etc/sendmail.cf.bak after installation of ptf7130b to ensure that your previous configuration was correctly preserved. The version of Berkeley DB used by this new release of sendmail has been updated. Consequently, all database maps that you have configured for use by sendmail must be recompiled. This SLS attempts to automatically detect and recompile all such database map files, including the following: - alias files - database files used by the virtual domains configuration - database files in the directory /etc/mail/table - database files for hash and btree maps configured in /etc/sendmail.cf via the K configuration command However, if you have hash or btree maps configured for use by sendmail, we recommend you check to ensure that all of their associated databases (*.db files) have been recompiled. If they have not, then you must do so manually using the makemap(1M) utility. If you remove ptf7130b, then you should again follow the same precautions after package removal. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Download the ptf7130b.Z file to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. As root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using these commands: $ su Password: # uncompress /tmp/ptf7130b.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf7130b # rm /tmp/ptf7130b Alternatively, this SLS package may be installed in quiet mode, that is, without displaying the release notes and asking for installation confirmation. To do this, use these commands: $ su Password: # uncompress /tmp/ptf7130b.Z # pkgadd -qd /tmp/ptf7130b all # rm /tmp/ptf7130b 3. There is no need to reboot the system after installing this package. The release notes displayed prior to installation can be found in: /var/sadm/pkg/ptf7130/install/ptf7130.txt Removal Instructions -------------------- 1. As root, remove the package using these commands: $ su Password: # pkgrm ptf7130 2. There is no need to reboot the system after removing this package. If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier.
